New Moon Telescopes Achieve Perfect Balance
Hunting down faint DSOs can quickly become a chore if
an astronomer is continually fussing with counter weights or attempting to use a scope that has jerky or bouncy motion. To ensure an enjoyable night each night you observe, every NMT dobsonian is required to achieve perfect balance.
Our standard begins with a 31mm Nagler pointed toward the horizon. We then change eyepieces and proceed to test an array of oculars to ensure there is no trace of the notorious “scope drift”, even at varying altitudes. Prior to making final customizations on the scope, we track a planet at high power by hand. Once the ‘feel’ is just right, the New Moon Telescope plaque is mounted and the scope is complete and prepared for shipping.
