Box Joint Joinery
While two important components of a New Moon Telescope are simply boxes, they are not simple boxes. Both our mirror and rocker boxes incorporate pinned box joints that result in superior sturdiness and superb strength. Forces exerted on these two components from daily observing can be quite immense, and increases with the size of the scope. Although wood screws and glue are suitable solutions, we chose to put in the hours to utilize pinned box joints because they are a mix of both form and function. A pinned box joint is not only aesthetically pleasing, but it also offers a mechanical advantage over just about other type of joinery (yes- even dovetails).
